In a recent development, the Secretary of the United States Navy, Richard Spencer, confirmed that the military review of the current status of Edward Gallagher, a former Navy Seal, will proceed on Friday. The decision is remarkable, as President Trump tweeted that the accused Edward Gallagher should not lose, which is a possibility after the military review.
The development is necessary to teach discipline, Secretary Richard Spencer revealed. Currently, Richard Spencer is attending Halifax Security Forum at Nova Scotia in Canada. In the sideline of the forum, when the Secretary was asked about his remark, he revealed that the proceedings against Richard Spencer should continue. He supported the actions against Richard Spencer before, as well.
On the other hand, the President of the United States, Donald Trump tweeted in support of the accused Navy Seal on Thursday. In his tweet, he claimed that the case handling was not done correctly, and the Navy cannot take away the Trident Pin from Edward Gallagher. The Trident Pin is the symbol of ultimate bravery and sacrifice made by the Navy SEALs. One can get this Trident Pin after completing the intense training from Navy SEAL. It symbolizes the membership in the elite military unit of the world.
An official from the United States Navy revealed that the organization stopped the proceedings against Gallagher for the time being. The Navy will take action once it got further guidance from the White House.
Trump’s Love for Armed Forces Personnel
Trump’s support for SEAL men is not new. Previously President Trump reversed the demotion decision of Edward Gallagher, who was accused of posing for a photo with the dead body of an ISIS terrorist. President Trump also forgave a couple of other Armed forces officials, who were facing war crime allegations.
Experts are criticizing the interference of Trump in military justice, and they fear that such actions might undermine the system.
